Recently at ChangeMedEd® 2023, Brian George, MD, MA, received the 2023 Accelerating Change in Medical Education award. He is the chief of acute care surgery and the director of the Center for Surgical Training and Research at the University of Michigan as well as serving as the executive director of the Society for Improving Medical Professional Learning, an international medical education research network.

He has won numerous teaching awards and is an active mentor of learners at every level. Supported by over $10M in funding from the National Institutes of Health and multiple national stakeholders in medical education, Dr. George studies how to improve the competence of physician trainees.

The Accelerating Change in Medical Education award is an extension of the AMA ChangeMedEd initiative that catalyzes innovation in competency-based medical education; transitions; equity, diversity, and belonging; and precision education to reduce barriers in lifelong learning, advance health equity, and improve patient outcomes.
