Review the lists of top 10 issues for LGBTQ patients to bring up when visiting their health care providers based on their orientation, provided for patients by the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association.

Read over the suggested topics of discussion—be familiar with what LGBTQ patients may ask of you, or what your patients may be hesitant to address voluntarily.

Many health care providers know and understand the importance of taking a proper sexual history. Often times, it is the sexual history that reveals additional important facets about patients, such as their sexual orientation or gender identity.

The AMA has recently developed a free video to educate physicians on best practices when taking a sexual history.

Watch "Patient Sexual Health History: What You Need to Know to Help" to find recommendations and considerations when treating LGBTQ patients.
