The Ethics Group Internship Program offers candidates first-hand insight to the formation of AMA ethics policy. Interns work closely with staff and the Council on Ethical and Judicial Affairs (CEJA) who is responsible for developing and implementing AMA ethics policies, on ethics-related projects and initiatives. Interns engage in projects related to a diverse array of bioethical topics such as: the integration of AI in clinical care, use cases of shackles for incarcerated patients, and physicians' rights to exercise conscience.
The internship is a part-time paid position located at the AMA headquarters in downtown Chicago offering a flexible schedule. Graduate program candidates preferred.
Program requirements
- Be enrolled in an academic program at the time of the internship or graduated within 6 months from an academic program.
- Knowledge of basic principles and concepts of medical ethics.
- Residency requirement, AMA employment guidelines require for positions considered fully remote work, employees must reside in only the following states: CA, DC, FL, IL, IN, MA, MD, MI, NJ, NY, SC, VA, WI.
Responsibilities
- Conduct primary literature research on a wide variety of medical ethics issues.
- Assist in the development of various reports that shape AMA ethics policies.
- Contribute to AMA CME online ethics educational modules.
- Provide support in advancing ethics initiatives within the AMA.
