CHICAGO – With respiratory virus season getting underway and flu activity reported early in many parts of the country, the American Medical Association (AMA) is urging the public to stay up to date on recommended vaccinations to reduce the risk of severe illness from flu, CVID-19 and RSV.
“As temperatures drop and people spend more time indoors with their loved ones and coworkers, respiratory viruses like flu spread,” said AMA President Willie Underwood III, MD, MSc, MPH. “Now is the time to get vaccinated; we urge you to do it as soon as possible. We want you to get protected so that you can protect others. Vaccination can prevent serious illness, hospitalization, and even death from these viruses.”
As part of its ongoing work to ensure patients and clinicians have credible, evidence-based immunization recommendations, the AMA encourages the public to visit SpreadTheFacts.org for the latest recommendations and evidence reviews on respiratory virus immunizations. The website features resources for patients and clinicians with an easy-to-use chart (PDF) outlining recommendations for different populations, including children, adults, healthcare personnel, and pregnant or immunocompromised patients.
The AMA encourages anyone with questions about respiratory virus vaccines—or which immunizations are recommended for them—to consult their physician.
