AMA presents government service award to Maryland governor

WASHINGTON —The American Medical Association (AMA) presented Gov. Larry Hogan of Maryland with the Dr. Nathan Davis Award for Outstanding Government Service.

A Republican in deep blue Maryland, Gov. Hogan has a reputation for bipartisanship and has governed by a pledge to advance the best ideas, regardless of which side of the aisle conceived of them. Gov. Hogan enacted a major expansion of the Maryland Model, the state’s unique all-payer contract with the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI), setting an example for the rest of the country. And he has continued to make investments in the state’s health information exchange (HIE) so that all physicians could share data effectively and participate in new transformation efforts. His contributions allowed for the state HIE to accelerate real-time data delivery and engage hospitals and clinics in new care redesign efforts.
