CPT codes: A shared language of medicine

| 1 Min Read

More than 11,000 Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®) codes today serve as the standard medical code set terminology for communicating medical, surgical and diagnostic utilization across health care. These codes define how health care is delivered and measured, and enable the exchange of information in a data-driven health system. The CPT code set is updated throughout the year to reflect current clinical practice and the latest innovations. This open process is led by the AMA-convened CPT Editorial Panel and strengthened by extensive input from stakeholders from across health care, including practicing physicians and health care professionals, commercial health plans, federal agencies, and industry experts.
