A note from the IMGS chair
September 2025
From IMGS Chair Roopa Naik, MD
IMGS strategic planning
The IMGS Governing Council convened in Chicago in August for a strategic planning session, outlining our key focus areas for 2025-2026. Our priorities include:
- Collaborating with state-level IMG sections and ethnic societies to discuss their specific needs and challenges.
- Creating a leadership academy to cultivate future IMG leaders.
- Developing impactful policies that benefit international medical graduates.
We are actively working to implement our plan, and your input is invaluable. If you have any suggestions regarding collaboration or are interested in sharing your knowledge on how to train IMG leaders, please email us at [email protected].
IMG Recognition Week
Mark your calendars! IMG Recognition Week is scheduled for Oct. 20-24, 2025. We are dedicating this week to celebrating IMGs and highlighting the profound differences you make in your communities and across the U.S. health care system.
We want to shine a spotlight on your success. Please share your accomplishments with us so we can recognize your hard work and dedication.
We will also be honoring a physician mentor during IMG Recognition Week. If an IMG mentor has made a significant impact on your life, we encourage you to nominate them for the IMG Physician Mentor of the Year Award.
Please submit your nomination to [email protected]. The winner will be recognized during IMG Recognition Week.
Meet IMG staff
I would like to begin by shining a spotlight on our incredible AMA staff, Carolyn Carter-Ellis, senior group manager, whose expertise is invaluable to our team.
Carolyn has been employed with the AMA for over 40 years and with the IMG section since 2006. She has served in many positions at the AMA and has a wealth of experience and knowledge on AMA and IMG issues.
