Registration is closed for the AMA's Distinguish Yourself IMG Summit in Chicago, taking place Thursday, Aug. 7, 2025 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Central. This special event will feature IMG-specific education sessions on leadership, research, advocacy and preparing for the Match as an IMG.

Registration includes an evening networking reception and free professional headshots.

Programming is designed for ECFMG certified IMGs awaiting to Match. All physicians are welcome to attend.*

Dr. Underwood is a board-certified urologist with more than 20 years of overall urologic surgery experience, including more than 10 years focused on robotic urologic surgery. He was elected to the AMA Board of Trustees in June 2019, elected chair in June 2023 and president-elect in June 2025.

Dr. Arruarana is the founder of Project IMG, a groundbreaking organization that supports IMGs through education, research training and peer-led mentorship. By creating this community, he has mentored thousands of physicians worldwide, created research opportunities for students from underprivileged backgrounds, and led initiatives that address health care disparities and promote culturally competent care. Outside the hospital, he is active in public speaking, policy advocacy, and community outreach programs.

Dr. Correa is past chair of the IMGS Governing Council; a current member of the Council on Medical Education; program director for endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism fellowship, director of the Health Equity Center at the Cleveland Clinic; and AMA Research Challenge advisor.

Kristen Harris is the principal of Harris Immigration Law, LLC, a boutique immigration law firm that specializes in business immigration with a focus on the health care sector. Harris advises health care entities across the U.S. with regard to immigration, including immigration sponsorship of physicians, researchers, allied health care professionals and technical professionals, as well as I-9 compliance. 

 


Sabesan Karuppiah, MD, MPH

Clinical Professor, Kansas City University and Director of GME, Mercy Hospitals 

Dr. Karuppiah is a seasoned medical education leader. A former family medicine program director, he went on to serve as DIO and vice president of GME for the largest graduate medical education provider in the country. He currently serves as educational liaison and DIO for Mercy Health. Dr. Karuppiah is a current member of the Council on Graduate Medical Education (COGME) and serves on the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) Board of Directors and its Residency Task Force, where he helps shape the future of family medicine training nationwide.

Dr. McMahon is the president and CEO of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME®), that accredits over 1500 continuing medical education (CME) providers in the U.S. and internationally. He serves as adjunct professor of medicine and medical education at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, where he teaches medical students and fellows, and leads the diabetes program and cares for patients with endocrine disorders at Howard Brown Health in Chicago.


Roopa Naik, MD

Chair, IMGS

Dr. Naik serves as chair of the IMGS Governing Council for the 2025-2026 term. She is an internal medicine-trained hospitalist at Geisinger with a passion for teaching. She is an associate professor of medicine at the Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine and a core faculty member for the Northeast campus of the Geisinger Internal Medicine residency program.

 


*This event is designed for international medical school graduates (IMGs) who are currently certified by ECFMG, a member of Intealth, and are waiting to match into a U.S. residency program (GME position).
