New AMA board officers elected

Eight physicians were chosen last week as executive officers for the AMA Board of Trustees, representing a wide range of specialties, practice settings and regions of the country.

Board members who will be officers for 2015-2016 are as follows:

  • President: Steven J. Stack, MD (pictured upper left), an emergency physician in Lexington, Ky.
  • President-elect: Andrew W. Gurman, MD, an orthopaedic hand surgeon in Hollidaysburg, Pa.
  • Chair: Stephen R. Permut, MD (pictured lower right), a family physician in Wilmington, Del.
  • Chair-elect: Patrice A. Harris, MD (pictured upper right), a psychiatrist and public health administrator in Atlanta, Ga.
  • Speaker: Susan R. Bailey, MD (pictured lower left), an allergist in Fort Worth, Texas
  • Vice speaker: Bruce A. Scott, MD, an otolaryngologist in Louisville, Ky.
  • Secretary: Gerald E. Harmon, MD, a family physician in Pawleys Island, S.C.
  • Immediate past chair: Barbara L. McAneny, MD, a medical oncologist/hematologist in Albuquerque, N.M.

Members of the board are elected by physicians and medical students representing more than 180 state and specialty medical societies, who gathered in Chicago this week for the 2015 AMA Annual Meeting. The mission of the AMA Board of Trustees is to foster the promotion of the art and science of medicine and the betterment of public health.
