Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee holds hearing on AI in health care
On Sept. 3, the House Committee on Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health held a hearing titled "Examining Opportunities to Advance American Health Care through the Use of Artificial Intelligence Technologies."
The AMA submitted a Statement for the Record (PDF) commending the subcommittee’s focus on understanding the intricacies of AI in health care, which has the potential to significantly enhance the patient-physician relationship and improve and streamline the health care delivery system. The statement outlines the foundational concepts, measures and principles the AMA believes are crucial for the successful integration of AI into the health care system and the practice of medicine and emphasizes that physicians must play a central role in the ethical development, deployment and utilization of AI technologies in health care, as their clinical expertise is indispensable in ensuring these tools are safe, effective, and trustworthy.
