FSMB alerts member boards about scam

The Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) recently warned its member boards about a new scam targeting physicians.

“Individuals posing as an FSMB staff member have contacted physicians, telling them there is an issue with their license and/or disciplinary record and offering to resolve the issue in an attempt to extract personal information from the licensee,” said FSMB CEO Humayun J. Chaudhry, DO, MACP. “Please know that FSMB will never contact licensees directly pertaining to issues regarding their license or any disciplinary action.”

Physicians or others who have been contacted by a scammer are encouraged to contact their state medical board.
