Discussion with CMS leadership: 2026 MPFS Rule
AMA CEO and Executive Vice President John Whyte, MD, MPH, and the Chair, Ezequiel “Zeke” Silva III, MD, and Vice Chair, Peter Hollmann, MD, of the AMA/Specialty Society RVS Update Committee met with Chris Klomp, MBA, director of Medicare and deputy administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), along with other CMS leaders, to discuss two concerning proposals in the 2026 MPFS proposed rule.
The AMA shares CMS’s goals of ensuring that the time data used to establish payment rates is accurate and of preserving the viability of private physician practice, yet has concerns that the proposals will lead to significant unintended consequences. The AMA recommended alternative approaches to accomplish our shared objectives.
