Marta J. Van Beek, MD, MPH

Elected to the American Medical Association Board of Trustees in June 2025, Marta Van Beek, MD, MPH, is a board-certified dermatologist and board-certified Mohs micrographic surgeon who practices at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics.

Dr. Van Beek currently serves as the executive medical director of ambulatory care for the University of Iowa where she also completed two terms as chief of staff of the hospital system. Dr. Van Beek holds the C. William Hanke Professorship of Dermatologic Surgery & Cutaneous Oncology and is director of the ACGME fellowship in micrographic surgery and dermatologic oncology. She performs Mohs surgery at the University of Iowa and the Iowa City Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

In addition, Dr. Van Beek’s long interest in health policy has placed her in multiple other leadership roles. Previously, she served seven years on the AMA Council on Legislation and was elected chair in 2024. She also served as the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) secretary-treasurer (2019–2022) and was instrumental in implementing DataDermTM, the AAD’s national registry that is currently the world’s largest dermatology registry with more than 16 million unique patients and over 60 million patient visits.

At the AAD, Dr. Van Beek also served as chair of the Congressional Policy Committee and as chair of the Council on Government Affairs & Health Policy. Today, Dr. Van Beek is the chair of the Association of Professors of Dermatology Surgical Section and serves on the board of the American College of Mohs Surgeons.
