Lynn Jeffers, MD, MBA

Lynn Jeffers, MD, MBA, was elected to the American Medical Association Board of Trustees in June 2024. Dr. Jeffers is a past chair of both the AMA Council on Medical Service and the AMA Section on Plastic Reconstructive and Maxillofacial Surgery, and a past president of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).

Dr. Jeffers, who is a fellow in the American College of Surgeons (ACS), practices in southern California and currently serves as the chief medical officer of St. John’s Regional Medical Center and St. John’s Hospital Camarillo, as the medical director of St. John’s Integrated Breast Center, and as a plastic surgeon in her independent private practice.

Her 30-year work in organized medicine spans several boards, councils and officer positions at the county, state and national levels, both for her specialty and for the house of medicine. Throughout her career she has earned recognition for leadership, mentorship, research and service, including the AMA Glaxo Achievement Award, the AMA Foundation Excellence in Medicine Leadership Award, the ASPS Presidents’ Award, Ventura County Medical Association Charles Hair Award, the Camarillo Woman of the Year Award and, most recently, the 2023 AMA Foundation Excellence in Medicine— Dr. Edmond and Rima Cabbabe Dedication to the Profession Award.

In matters of accreditation and governance, she has served on the Board of the Commission on Laboratory Accreditation, serves on the AAMI AI Committee and will serve on the Board of the Joint Commission starting in January 2027.

As the president of ASPS and as a chief medical officer during the pandemic, she led the pandemic response for her national specialty society as well as her two hospitals. During her term, the ASPS was recognized by the White House and the surgeon general for helping to source millions of masks to hospitals in need.

Dr. Jeffers was accepted into the University of Michigan Medical School out of high school after being named a White House Presidential Scholar. She completed her Bachelor of Science in biomedical sciences at the University of Michigan with highest honors while also serving as a liaison to the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars. She completed her medical degree at Michigan with distinction in research, earning the American Federation for Clinical Research Medical Student Award, before completing her integrated plastic surgery residency at Michigan as well. In 2019 she returned to Michigan to obtain an MBA from the Ross School of Business graduating with high distinction.

Dr. Jeffers has been instrumental in creating the leadership development program at the ASPS, as well as the ASPS Technology Innovation Disruption and Entrepreneurship Committee and the ASPS/Medtech Innovator Accelerator, the first plastic surgery-centered accelerator. Recently, she helped launch ASPS Ventures, LLC , the ASPS’s strategic investment arm for which she serves as the chair of the board. In addition to mentoring cohort companies in the innovator accelerator program, she serves as a mentor to the Stanford University Master of Science in Clinical Informatics Management program. Currently, she is working to create a new graduate medical education program at her two hospitals with an alliance between Morehouse School of Medicine and CommonSpirit Health.

A keynote speaker, visiting professor, and grand rounds speaker domestically and abroad, Dr. Jeffers has served on national panels on leadership, healthcare, and technology in healthcare—topics that align with her interest and commitment to innovation, AI and other technology, advocacy, health policy, leadership training and strategic planning.
