Hospital ad spending rising

The amount hospitals spend on marketing is going up.

The Society for Healthcare Strategy and Market Development surveyed hospitals about their marketing and communications budgets, including advertising. Averages, based on bed count:

2003 $687.0 million
2004 $804.5 million
2005 $809.5 million

Hospitals, clinics and medical centers have nearly doubled their advertising expenditures over the last five years, according to TNS Media Intelligence, which provides advertising and marketing information. Total annual spending:
