Closing the Digital Health Disconnect: A Blueprint for Optimizing Digitally Enabled Care
Jan. 31, 2023 | 11 a.m. CT
When equitably designed and thoughtfully integrated, digital health tools can effectively augment and enhance in-person care. Yet often, digital health products exist in silos and risk additional fragmentation, higher costs, and diminishing patient and physician experience. The ”digital health disconnect” is the chasm between the theoretical potential that digitally enabled care models promise and the reality of ”parallel” care that predominates today. View a panel discussing the Future of Health report from the 2022 HLTH conference, jointly developed by the AMA and Manatt Health, followed by a Q&A.

AMA Digital Health Research: 2022 Findings
Oct. 19, 2022
First launched in 2016, the AMA conducts a study of physicians’ motivations and requirements for the adoption of digital health solutions. Findings from the initial research indicated that physician requirements of these tools fall into 4 categories:
- Does it work?
- Will I receive payment?
- Will I be liable?
- Will it work in my practice?
To maintain a pulse on trends, the AMA regularly refreshes this study every three years and most recently fielded the survey in Q1 of 2022. The findings report of this study will be released in mid September. Join this session for an executive summary and walkthrough of this year's key insights along with a longitudinal analysis of key changes in physician motivations and requirements for the adoption of digital clinical tools compared to prior years.
A live virtual discussion will be held on the AMA Physician Innovation Network simultaneously giving an opportunity for participants to connect with practices featured. Access the virtual discussion (login required).
Speakers
- Meg Barron, AMA vice president of digital health strategy

Demonstrating the Value of Virtual Care
Sept. 23, 2022
Leveraging the AMA's Return on Health Framework, practices across the nation are measuring the value of virtual care in their organizations. In this session, a variety of practices will have the opportunity to take the mic and share real-world examples of how virtual care has impacted one or more of the following value streams: (1) clinical outcomes, quality, safety, (2) access to care, (3) patient, family and caregiver experience, (4) clinician experience, (5) financial and operational impact, and (6) health equity.
Practices featured during this event are participants of a program hosted in collaboration between the AMA, Physicians Foundation, Medical Society of the State of New York (MSSNY), Academy of Medicine of Cleveland and Northern Ohio (AMCNO), Montana Medical Association (MMA), Massachusetts Medical Society (MMS), and Iowa Medical Society (IMS).
A live virtual discussion will be held on the AMA Physician Innovation Network simultaneously giving an opportunity for participants to connect with practices featured. Access the virtual discussion (login required).

Understanding the AI Taxonomy
May 25, 2022
Rapid advancements in artificial intelligence/augmented intelligence (AI)-enabled health care innovation are reshaping technology’s capacity to enhance patient care, population health and work life of health care providers. The pace of innovation also accelerates the need for trusted resources, and guidance for answers and meaningful perspective on AI.
Focused on making technology an asset, not a burden, in the delivery of health care, the AMA is committed to helping physicians and other health professionals become well-informed as they navigate new applications of AI—and new gaps in understanding. One crucial resource is the very language used to describe these AI applications, and the services and procedures they enable.
As the language of medicine today, the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®) code set reflects the latest medical care provided to patients. To this end, the AMA CPT Editorial Panel has accepted the addition of CPT Appendix S: AI taxonomy for medical services & procedures. The taxonomy provides guidance for describing and classifying various AI applications and went into effect Jan. 1, 2022.
In this webinar with CPT Editorial Panel Member Richard Frank, MD, PhD, and CPT Coding and Regulatory Manager Samantha Ashley, speakers review the AMA’s AI taxonomy. You will gain:
- Insight into the development of the AI taxonomy
- Understanding of the terminology included in the AI taxonomy
- Guidance on how to describe your AI-enabled innovation in the language of CPT
