CHICAGO — The American Medical Association (AMA) today announced the hiring of Brian D. Vandenberg as its new Senior Vice President and General Counsel. Vandenberg most recently served as General Counsel for Livongo Health, Inc., a leading consumer digital health company focused on diabetes management and other chronic conditions. He replaces Jon Ekdahl, who retires after nearly 16 years with the AMA.

“We are very pleased to add Brian to the AMA executive team,” said James L. Madara, M.D., AMA Chief Executive Officer and Executive Vice President. “As an experienced corporate attorney for private and publically-traded companies, Brian brings unique knowledge, perspective and expertise to the organization. With a strong background in health care, technology, and preventing chronic disease, he will play a critical role in the AMA’s ongoing efforts to lower health care costs and improve the health of the nation.”

“The AMA has for generations been a guiding voice in medicine and public health,” Vandenberg said. “I am thrilled to join the team at a historic time of change for America’s health care system. I look forward to working with the AMA’s senior leadership and staff, as well as our physician members, to help shape and ensure a better health care system for patients, physicians and the nation.”

Prior to joining Livongo, Vandenberg served in general counsel roles for Origin Healthcare Solutions, Allscripts Healthcare Solutions and uBid. He began his early career in private practice.
