Mirna Kaafarani serves as the Medical Student Section representative on the AMA Women Physicians Section Governing Council for the 2022-2023 term.
The WPS is a member interest group within the AMA for women physicians and medical students. The section governing council is responsible for increasing the membership, participation and leadership of women in the AMA as well as advocating on women’s health and women in medicine policy issues.
Ms. Kaafarani is also in a women’s health concentration program at WSUSOM in which she learns about the current health issues regarding women, people who have the capacity to bear children, and girls. During medical school, her research initiatives are focused on identifying risk factors for women who are being considered for coronary artery bypass graft operations. Upon graduation, she aspires to be an internist practicing in an urban, underserved community. Ms. Kaafarani received her bachelor's degree in biochemistry at Michigan State University at East Lansing, Mich.
