The Senior Physicians Section (SPS) sponsored an educational program on Sunday entitled, "Understanding ageism and strategies to reduce its negative impact."
This well-attended program featured David Burnes, PhD, associate professor at the University of Toronto, Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work and Karl Pillemer, PhD, professor of gerontology in medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine.
Panelists were former SPS Governing Council members, Barbara A. Hummel, MD and Luis Sanchez, MD; current SPS Governing Council member, Thomas Sullivan, MD and Michelle Silver, PhD, associate professor, University of Toronto, Department of Sociology & Interdisciplinary Centre for Health and Society. This program reviewed current evidence and research on ageism and the social forces that shape one’s assumptions and beliefs.
The SPS Governing Council met on Saturday to review HOD resolutions and reports related to senior physician issues and discuss future policy topics. During the Assembly meeting, Todd Askew, SVP of Advocacy, provided a keynote on the future of healthcare in this political environment. The Assembly Meeting included a call for SPS Governing Council nominations in early 2021.
