The SPS sponsored an educational program on Saturday, Nov. 16 entitled, "The impact of vision and hearing loss in the senior population – Why seeing and hearing are believing."
The program featured S. Bobby Mukkamala, MD, a board-certified otolaryngologist—head and neck surgeon, AMA Board of Trustees and Mihir (Max) Y. Parikh, MD, a board-certified ophthalmologist, and chief surgeon for NVision in San Diego.
The moderator was James F. Burdick, MD, chair-elect, SPS Governing Council and the facilitator was Louis Weinstein, MD, chair, SPS Governing Council.
The program explored the links between age and sensory loss and ways to prevent its decline.
The Senior Physicians Section and the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery sponsored free hearing tests Saturday morning, Nov. 16, to help promote the program.
Governing council update
The governing council met Friday, Nov. 15 to review HOD resolutions and reports related to senior physician issues, and to complete strategic planning for the 2019-2020 year. The assembly meeting included discussion of SPS business items and a call for SPS Governing Council nominations in early 2020.
