The Organized Medical Staff Section (OMSS) met virtually on Saturday, Nov. 6. The virtual meeting had 63 attendees making up both members of the section and guests.

The section heard testimony and debate on the strategies and methods for improving protections against cyberattacks as well as providing funding and security for health care facilities that otherwise may have no other options after being victims of malware or ransomware. The section also debated a strategy for improving employment prospects and career options for medical students who fail to match in their first year post graduation.

The section transmitted one resolution to the House of Delegates for consideration at its November 2021 Meeting:

  • Resolution 1 – Ransomware Prevention and Recovery

The section voted to provide support to a variety of AMA House of Delegates resolutions, including:

  • Advocating for better standardization of coding for telehealth services
  • Promoting sustainability in Medicare physician payments
  • Ending budget neutrality requirements in MPRFS that relate to payment to physicians
  • Bettering America’s public health system

Attendees heard a presentation from Elizabeth Snelson, Esq, on methods and considerations of supervising advanced practice providers and why physicians who may not consider themselves to be supervisors still have some areas of legal liability.
