John Spurlock, MD, a obstetrician/gynecologist in private practice in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, has been elected chair of the AMA Organized Medical Staff Section (OMSS) Governing Council.
The OMSS is a member interest group within the AMA for physician medical staff leaders. The Section Governing Council is responsible for directing OMSS efforts to improve patient outcomes and the physician experience in the hospital setting.
Dr. Spurlock became one of the first doctors in the United States to achieve board certification in the new subspecialty of female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery in 2013.
