Tripti C. Kataria, MD, MPH

2023-2024

Since her medical student days, Dr. Kataria has proved to be an engaged, passionate, and committed advocate for physicians and our patients. Tripti’s love for our AMA House of Delegates (HOD) and the role it plays in advancing our profession began when she attended her first AMA Annual meeting as a medical student at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She was awed by our HOD but even more by the Speakers who led a diverse set of voices to develop health policy to best serve our patients and our profession.

Bringing nearly a decade of experience serving in diverse leadership roles throughout organized medicine, Dr. Kataria is a proven leader who will facilitate our democratic process. She has been active in numerous sections, including serving on the governing council of the YPS. Currently, Tripti is a member of the executive committee of the AMA Council on Legislation, is the vice-chair of the Anesthesia Section Council and is secretary of the Surgical Caucus. She served on Reference Committee B and chaired the rules and credentials committee for two years. Dr. Kataria is also a recipient of the AMA Foundation Excellence in Medicine Leadership Award.

Tripti understands that the role of an effective speaker is to be a steward of the will of the House. She is dedicated to ensuring that every voice is heard and every viewpoint is respected. Her engagement goes well beyond her specialty. She now serves as speaker for the Illinois State Medical Society. Previously, Dr. Kataria served as speaker/vice-speaker for eight years for the Illinois Society of Anesthesiologists (ISA) before ascending to the presidency in 2020. During her presidency, Tripti established ISA’s diversity and inclusion, wellness, and women anesthesiologists committees.

During the last three years, Tripti spearheaded virtual HODs for both ISA and ISMS, and worked behind the scenes at the virtual AMA HOD meetings. These experiences gave her insight into the possibilities of using technology to increase participation.
