The Medical Student Section (MSS) strives to be the medical students' leading voice for improving medical education and advocating for the future of medicine.

Medical Student Section Interim Meeting

More than 800 MSS members convened at the 2016 AMA Interim Meeting in Orlando, Florida. Find out more about the MSS activities and download the reference committee reports.

During the meeting, the winners were announced in the AMA Research Symposium, which featured presentations by nearly 500 medical students, residents, fellows and international medical graduates.

Financial Aid/Debt Management Information and Resources: The AMA is committed to helping students obtain information on financial aid and debt management resources. Some of these initiatives include:

  • The AMA Foundation: Provides scholarships, grants and awards to deserving medical students and residents.
  • Loan Forgiveness/Repayment Programs: Many programs offer to pay the cost of medical education (either upfront or through loan forgiveness/repayment) in exchange for a service commitment. 

National Leadership Opportunities

Learn more about national leadership positions within the MSS, in the larger AMA, and in other organizations and groups that work closely with the AMA.

AMA internships and fellowship opportunities are available for medical students, covering a wide range of academic and policy interests, including a Medical Student and Resident Elective Rotation program at the Food and Drug Administration. Application due Dec. 1.

Medical Student Section Advocacy

With nearly 55,000 members, the MSS provides student members with a powerful, unified voice on issues of importance to medical students. It provides students an avenue to voice concerns, analyze issues and advocate for change.
