e-mail story | print story

The American Medical Association (AMA)-convened Physician Consortium for Performance Improvement® (Consortium) is committed to enhancing quality of care and patient safety by taking the lead in the development, testing, and maintenance of evidence-based clinical performance measures and measurement resources for physicians.

The Consortium (PDF, 27KB) is comprised of over 100 national medical specialty and state medical societies; the Council of Medical Specialty Societies; American Board of Medical Specialties and its member-boards; experts in methodology and data collection; the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality; and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.  The 23-member Executive Committee (PDF, 15KB) of the Consortium has broad representation.  Consortium Advisory Committees (PDF, 10KB) address issues related to measures implementation and evaluation; measure development, methodology and oversight; and planning.

Consortium activities are carried out through cross-specialty work groups established to develop performance measures for physicians from evidence-based clinical guidelines for select clinical conditions.  Membership is open to any organization or individual committed to health care quality improvement and/or patient safety, and participates in the development, review, dissemination, or implementation of performance measures and measurement resources.  If your organization is interested in membership, complete and return this organization membership application (PDF, 135KB).  If you are an individual with an interest in membership, complete and return this individual membership application (PDF, 27KB).
