Vice President, Science, Quality, and Public Health -- 1494HAD

You will shape, direct, and manage AMA programs on science, quality and public health. You will make a unique contribution to the AMA’s core purpose of promoting the science and art of medicine and the betterment of public health. You will be working with the AMA leadership, an excellent professional staff, and colleagues in the two other areas of the Professional Standards Group--Medical Ethics and Medical Education--toward a vision of the AMA as an essential force for progress in improving the nation’s health.A prime objective of the Science, Quality, and Public Health area is the translation of medical and public health science into practice and advocacy. The specific issues and programs are continuously evolving. Among those currently being addressed are health and health care disparities, performance improvement in clinical care, patient safety, disaster preparedness, underage drinking, infectious diseases, obesity, and the implications of molecular medicine for practice. The Science, Quality, and Public Health group also provides vision and administrative oversight to the staff and members of the Council on Scientific Affairs and develops scientific and public health reports and policies to the Board of Trustees and House of Delegates as requested.
Requirements:
- MD degree required.
- At least 10 years academic, association, or professional management experience, a portion of which shouldinvolve working effectively within a corporate governance environment with senior management and a Board of Trustees or Directors.
- Demonstrated expertise and evidence of effective leadership in at least one of the program areas.
- Experience developing, implementing, and managing programs (including grants and/or contracts.
- Experience effectively developing and managing budgets.
- Demonstrated ability to manage a team of highly skilled and respected professionals.
- Polished communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, presentation and public speaking skills.
- Strong analytical skill and writing skills, with a publishing record.
- Polished negotiation and coalition-building skills.
- Well-established tact and sensitivity, along with ability to accommodate extensive travel and representation.
