Instructions for Ethics Module

The purpose of this module is to explore what ethical issues/domains arise in the arena of genetic testing for BRCA1 and BRCA2. The dilemmas are taken from one main scenario concerning your patient, Rebecca. Based on your interests and goals, you will be able to navigate with Rebecca through a series of issues and contemplate your own personal reactions as well as how you would respond to each situation.

It is our hope that this module will provide a simulated view of the patient and physician role in genetic counseling as well as provide a model for physicians wishing to counsel patients about genetic testing. As part of this module it is also important for physicians to recognize the limits of their genetic knowledge and decide when they would refer to a cancer genetic counselor.
