Rebecca:
Who will have access to my test results, to my medical
records?
You
reply:
Your results will be kept confidential. If I were to
release your genetic test results or any of your medical
records to anyone, I would need your approval before
doing so. Your results will go into your medical record.
|
|
I
must tell you, however, that
I do not have complete control over who reviews your medical
records. If
you wish to change jobs or insurance companies, the new
employer or prospective insurer may ask you to sign a
release allowing them to view your medical records. Generally,
you may have to agree to signing a release form as a condition
of employment for getting coverage.
Despite the concern pertaining to genetic discrimination, it is important to recognize that studies have not been able to document insurance discrimination based upon genetic test results, and that it is illegal to discriminate based upon genetic results.
