Doctors Back to School Health and Wellness Program
8 to 11:30 a.m., Rachel Carson Elementary School, 5516 S. Maplewood Ave., Chicago

Sponsored by the Minority Affairs Section and Medical Student Section, the event features health and wellness activity stations. Bring your white coat, scrubs and stethoscope. Transportation will be provided. Register to participate before May 31.

Integrated Physician Practice Section inaugural meeting
9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Hyatt Regency Chicago – Crystal Ballroom A

Get acquainted with the new AMA Integrated Physician Practice Section (IPPS) during the AMA-IPPS's inaugural meeting. The program will include:

  • Keynote speaker Bruce Hamory, MD, executive vice president and managing partner of Geisinger Consulting Services for Geisinger Health System.
  • An interactive presentation on physician satisfaction by Jay Crosson, MD, the AMA's group vice president for Professional Satisfaction, Care Delivery and Payment.
  • A roundtable discussion on advocacy, policy and education needs that will help establish plans for AMA-IPPS activities.

Opening reception announcing grant awardees to Accelerate Change in Medical Education

Mingle with your colleagues and find out which proposals to transform medical education the AMA has selected as part of its $10 million Accelerating Change in Medical Education initiative during a special reception informally kicking off the Annual Meeting. Hear details about the eight to 10 grant awardees during this festive evening of lively conversation, food and relaxation.

Session to cover employment, conflict management, wellness

Learn about the AMA's Principles for Physician Employment, hear tips on managing conflict, and receive guidance on ways to achieve wellness and avoid burnout during a joint education session sponsored by the AMA Organized Medical Staff Section, the American Bar Association and the Chicago Medical Society.

10th annual Medical Specialty Showcase
11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Hyatt Regency Chicago – Riverside East Exhibit Hall

Medical students can learn about various specialties by connecting with physicians and medical residents with experience in the field during the AMA Medical Student Section's (MSS) 10th annual Medical Specialty Showcase. The online registration form (AMA login required) is open through May 17, and participation is free.
