Finally, for 2013-2014, the AMA-SMS Governing Council (GC) has the following open positions:

  • At-large member (three total slots)

Three at-large members of the Section serve on the GC. The members are elected annually, and no member can serve for more than three 1-year terms.

  • Chair-elect (one slot)

The chair-elect serves for one year, succeeds to the office of chair for one year, and then becomes immediate past chair for one year.

The GC serves as the direct communication link between the AMA and the Section representatives and has responsibility for the programs and activities of the Section. The Governing Council has nine members:

The elected members assume office at the conclusion of the Annual Meeting at which the election was held and serve until the conclusion of the next Annual Meeting. The GC meets, face-to-face, three times a year (June/AMA Annual Meeting, November/AAMC Annual Meeting, and November/AMA Interim Meeting) and holds monthly conference calls.
