Health equity resource toolkit can help address obesity disparities
A toolkit and Web page from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention can assist physicians and others in public health apply a systematic approach to program planning using a health equity lens.
The purpose of the Health Equity Toolkit is to increase the capacity of state health departments and their partners to work with and through communities to implement effective responses to obesity in populations that face health disparities.
The AMA Minority Affairs Section promotes educating all patients about lifestyle changes that can be made to prevent obesity. Email the section if you have a project or idea that could help prevent this health disparity or raise awareness regarding obesity prevention.
New video focuses on culture, language and health literacy
A video discussing how culture, language and health literacy are important to effective health communication recently was released by the Health Resources and Services Administration, a sister agency to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ).
The video also describes HRSA's free online course, "Effective Communication Tools for Health Care Professionals."
