Get tested: March is Colorectal Cancer Screening Month

Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer in the United Sates after lung cancer, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and most cases occur in people age 50 or older. With that, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommends colorectal cancer screening for Americans age 50 and older. The factors for risk include a family or personal history of colorectal polyps or cancer, obesity, alcohol consumption, and tobacco use.

All Medicare patients are eligible for a screening colonoscopy. Visit the website to learn more.

Wanted: Papers for JAMA's upcoming medical education issue

Physicians are invited to submit manuscripts to the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) for its December theme issue on medical education. Topics of interest include models for funding of undergraduate and graduate medical education, measurement of core competencies, continuing professional development, physician re-entry programs, the appropriate use of medical literature, the roles of the humanities in educating students and the use of interdisciplinary approaches to learning.

To receive highest priority, submissions should be original research papers, systematic reviews and scholarly viewpoints addressing medical education. Manuscripts received by May 15 will have the best chance of being considered.

Visit the JAMA Network website for more information.
