AMA-WPC events at the AMA Annual Meeting

The AMA Women's Physicians Congress (WPC) will be hosting a liaison meeting from 1 to 1:45 p.m. June 15 in Columbus C-D of the Hyatt Regency Chicago. Participants will discuss topics for future AMA-WPC educational sessions and themes for the September "Women in Medicine" month. 

Also on June 15, the AMA-WPC caucus and reception will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Columbus I and J of the Hyatt Regency Chicago. The agenda for this event includes a networking reception, exciting research results and presentations from the 2012 Joan F. Giambalvo Memorial Scholarship winners, an AMA-WPC update, and a caucus on AMA House of Delegates items of business.   

Researchers investigate important issues related to women physicians

The AMA Foundation and the AMA Women Physicians Congress are pleased to announce the recipients of the 2013 Joan F. Giambalvo Memorial Scholarship research grants. The Joan F. Giambalvo Memorial Scholarship Fund was established to advance the progress of women in the medical profession and strengthen the ability of the AMA to identify and address the needs of women physicians.

This year, two $10,000 scholarships were awarded to support the following research projects:

  • Reproductive knowledge, barriers and outcomes among female U.S. medical students and trainees (principal investigator: Rashmi Kudesia, MD, Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Women's Health, Albert Einstein College of Medicine)
  • The experience of chief residents who have remained in and who have left academic medicine (principal investigators: Janet Lee, MD; Yolanda Haywood, MD; Hope Jackson; Aisha Davis, MD; and Jehan El-Bayoumi, MD; George Washington University School of Medicine)
