This Week's News
Online CME program offers insight into treatment guidelines
Physicians looking to gain a better understanding of prescribing and treatment information for particular diseases can turn to AMA Therapeutic Insights for the latest treatment guidelines as well as unique state- and national-level prescribing information for featured conditions.
Aimed at enhancing physician knowledge and practice—and ultimately, improving the quality of patient care—AMA Therapeutic Insights is a free online continuing medical education (CME) newsletter that features a different disease in each issue.
Physicians in participating states have access to a personal prescribing profile showing their actual prescribing patterns for the featured diseases. The profile shows the physician's prescribing activity alongside state and national prescribing trends, as well as the top three specialties treating the condition.
Other information offered in each issue includes:
- Disease demographics, co-morbidities and data on patients "diagnosed and treated" versus "diagnosed and not treated"
- Best practices and evidence-based guidelines
- Integrated views of actual treatment practices for the respective disease states
The latest issue examines current management of acute, uncomplicated urinary tract infections. Past editions, which still are available online, feature such topics as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, dyslipidemia in adults and erectile dysfunction.
Physicians can earn AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ for reading the newsletter and completing the accompanying self-assessment.
The AMA is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
