New OWH resources highlight women's health
A set of newly released fact sheets from the U.S. Office on Women's Health (OWH) presents a snapshot of demographic characteristics and various health indicators for women. Specific to each state, the fact sheets contain data on such topics as teen health, birth outcomes and risk factors for various health conditions.
In addition, the 2013 Women's Health and Mortality Chartbook produced by the OWH provides an easy-to-use collection of data on critical issues for women. This resource features state-level data on nearly 30 different indicators related to women's health.
AMA-WPS Governing Council Chair recaps recent AMA-WPS events
A message from AMA Women Physician Section (WPS) Governing Council Chair Shannon Pryor, MD, highlights the group's recent activity during the 2013 AMA Annual Meeting.
In her post-meeting recap, Dr. Pryor discusses the recent conversion of the Women Physicians Congress to the Women Physicians Section and presentations from two 2012 Joan F. Giambalvo Memorial Scholarship Fund winners.
In addition, Dr. Pryor encourages AMA-WPS members to participate in the section's first official business meeting to be held in conjunction with the 2013 Interim Meeting of the House of Delegates. The AMA-WPS meeting and reception is scheduled for 5:30–7:30 p.m. Nov. 16 at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in National Harbor, Md.
The agenda for this event includes an education session called "Women Utilizing Their Political Capital to Improve Health Outcomes," which former Congresswoman Nan Hayworth, MD, has been invited to present. The meeting also will feature the results of the AMA-WPS Mentor Recognition Program and a review of items of business for the AMA.
