AMA president outlines organization's goals for the future of medicine
The AMA is laying out a path to improve the future of health care for physicians and patients alike, AMA President Jeremy A. Lazarus, MD, writes in a guest column on physician blog KevinMD.com.
Through its new strategic plan, the AMA aims to achieve a future in which patients live healthier lives, medical students are trained to deliver 21st-century medicine and physicians are empowered to thrive in sustainable practices.
"Our focus is anchored in the belief that there is a national imperative to improve both the delivery of health care and the health of the nation," Dr. Lazarus writes.
The AMA's three strategic focus areas are:
- Improving health outcomes
- Accelerating change in medical education
- Shaping delivery and payment models to enhance practice sustainability and professional satisfaction
He emphasizes that such an improved future requires physician leadership and collaboration.
Upcoming features in AMA Wire will focus on each of the AMA's strategic focus areas and provide additional details about the AMA's work in these areas.
