AMA names new publisher for JAMA Network, American Medical News

The AMA's scientific and news publications will have new leadership for their business operations beginning Dec. 1.

The AMA has tapped Thomas J. Easley (left) as the new senior vice president, periodic publications, to serve as publisher for the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), JAMA Network and American Medical News.

"It is a very important time for AMA publishing operations with the new branding, investments and strategy for the JAMA Network, and we are excited to have someone of Tom's caliber guiding these efforts," AMA Executive Vice President and CEO James L. Madara, MD, said in a news release.

Easley's most recent position has been as publisher and managing director of the New England Journal of Medicine. Prior to serving in that role, he was responsible for strategy, marketing, global business development and overall operating performance for the journal. Easley has called his upcoming position with the AMA a "once-in-a-career opportunity."

"Tom's impressive accomplishments in medical publishing and his strong sense of business and strategy make him the perfect candidate to raise the stature of JAMA, JAMA Network and American Medical News even higher," Dr. Madara said.

JAMA is the mostly widely distributed scientific medical journal in the world with a circulation of about 300,000. American Medical News has a circulation of about 250,000.
