Nominate a colleague by Nov. 16 for volunteerism award

If you know a senior physician who has volunteered to provide treatment to U.S. patients who lack access to health care, then nominate him or her for the Jack B. McConnell, MD, Award for Excellence in Volunteerism.

The Jack B. McConnell, MD, Award is part of the AMA Foundation's Excellence in Medicine Awards, which honor a select group of physicians, residents, fellows and medical students who represent the highest standards of volunteerism, public service and leadership. The Excellence in Medicine Awards are presented in association with Pfizer Inc.

Nominations are due Nov. 16. Visit the Excellence in Medicine Awards Web page to access a nomination form and to learn more about the Jack B. McConnell, MD, Award and the rest of the Excellence in Medicine Awards. Email Alice Reed for more information.

Liaison meeting to examine clinical competency assessment

The next AMA Senior Physicians Group Liaison Meeting will take place Nov. 10 in Honolulu in conjunction with the Interim Meeting of the AMA House of Delegates.

The meeting will include a panel discussion about assessing clinical competency. With an increasing number of U.S. physicians continuing to practice beyond age 65, physicians are invited to discuss the important issue of aging physician competency and share the physician perspective.
