Enrollment for Medicare prescription drug program open through Dec. 7
Seniors who are having difficulty getting their medications under their current prescription drug plan have an opportunity to switch plans during Medicare Part D open enrollment Oct. 15–Dec. 7.
During open enrollment, Medicare patients should review their current prescription drug coverage and determine whether another plan would meet their needs better. The National Council on Aging offers an easy-to-use website that walks seniors step-by-step through the process of evaluating their current plan and selecting a new one.
Seniors can compare Medicare plans in their area through the official Medicare website. Physicians also can download a pocket reference guide to help answer their elderly patients' questions about drug coverage and enrollment.
Patients who do not wish to change their plan for 2013 do not need to take any action.
