Navigate self-referrals: Kit explains rules of the road
An AMA toolkit and archived webinar guides physicians through the complex rules governing physician self-referrals, known as the "Stark law."
To help physicians comply with federal referral requirements, an easy-to-use interactive tool walks physicians through six questions to determine how the Stark law might apply to their situation. The toolkit's overview document offers examples of how to interpret the law, outlining some of its main requirements and exceptions.
Physicians also can watch a webinar recording to learn from practical examples and case studies that illuminate what this often-confusing law permits and prohibits regarding referrals for Medicare patients. This presentation covers the types of financial arrangements physicians can pursue, which arrangements they should avoid and penalties that can be assessed for violations of the law. Sign in to access the webinar.
