Earn CME credit and help your patients make healthy food choices
A new online training module from the AMA helps physicians counsel their patients on healthy eating habits using the U.S. Department of Agriculture's new ChooseMyPlate.gov website. The MyPlate icon (left) has replaced the traditional food pyramid and serves as a visual reminder to eat healthy.
The module offers tips for physicians on accessing the information on ChooseMyPlate.gov and presenting it to patients as part of counseling them on the importance of healthy eating habits. Physicians can earn continuing medical education (CME) credit in the form of AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ for completing the module.
"Physicians are in a unique position to educate patients about healthy eating and can make a real difference in helping their patients make positive lifestyle changes, but conversations about eating habits can often be challenging," AMA President Peter W. Carmel, MD, said in a news release. "This resource guides physicians through the ChooseMyPlate website and offers strategies for talking about healthy eating choices with their patients."
The module is the latest addition to the AMA's Educating Physicians on Controversies and Challenges in Health series of Web-streaming programs.
