For Physicians
Apply to enroll in Medicare up to 60 days in advance
Physicians can now submit Medicare enrollment applications two months in advance of their effective date, up from the previous 30-day limit.
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that Medicare contractors will be required to accept physicians' enrollment applications up to 60 days ahead of the effective date, which is considered either the date a physician files an application approved by Medicare or the date a physician begins furnishing services at a new practice location, whichever is later.
The AMA welcomed the extended time frame, which it has long urged CMS to adopt.
Grants available to promote prescription drug safety
Medical organizations can qualify for one of 25 grants to advance educational programs that promote prescription drug safety.
The AMA Foundation is seeking applications for grants of $8,000 to fund prescription medication safety projects targeting young people who are 2 to 21 years old. Medical organizations, including hospitals, free clinics, public health departments, medical schools and nonprofit organizations, are encouraged to collaborate on these projects with schools, government entities and nonprofit organizations.
The AMA Foundation's Healthy Living Grant program has supported 288 programs throughout the country that teach young people about nutrition, physical fitness and violence prevention. Previous grants have funded such activities as youth-led social media campaigns, toolkits and workshops for parents, and age-appropriate e-learning modules. This program is supported by a generous grant from Purdue Pharma LP.
The AMA Foundation is dedicated to improving public health by raising funds and providing philanthropic support to high-impact health and medical scholarship programs.
Applications must be received by July 16. Learn more and download an application today.
