The honor was announced in MM&M's annual All-Stars issue. Every year MM&M picks the companies, teams and brands demonstrating the most prowess, resilience and savvy going into the new year. American Medical News was recognized for its overall persistence and impressive financial gains for 2006.

"The only way to become an All-Star is to have an impressive year," wrote MM&M in its January 2007 issue. "And while financial performance always counts among the criteria, this year’s editorial picks shone as much for their resilience, courage, fresh thinking and ability to beat the odds."

The April 2007 issue noted that of the top five medical/surgical journals (ranked by dollars) only American Medical News showed an increase in ad pages in 2006.

Silver Award, Best Special Supplement -- American Society of Healthcare Publication Editors.
Silver Award, Special Section -- American Society of Business Publication Editors, Midwest Region. "Life Anatomy," edited by Bonnie Booth. This special section appeared in our Oct. 28, 2002, issue and was the culmination of a year-long project that involved nearly the entire staff. "Life Anatomy" presented the dramatic personal stories of a diverse group of physicians -- including one who gave birth, one who went to prison and another who was brutally attacked in her office -- and explored how those events changed each doctor's outlook on life and medicine.

Illustration   "Now hear this" by artist Dushan Milic, art direction by Annemarie Neff. This work from the Nov. 4, 2002, issue was selected by a national jury of art directors to appear in American Illustration 22 (2003), a showcase of the best artwork in American newspapers and magazines. The illustration complemented a feature story about screening elderly patients for hearing loss.
