Big firms less receptive to health reforms

Very large employers often are less likely to support commonly discussed or adopted health system reform measures than small businesses.

The opinion divide is probably because most large employers already provide health insurance and want to avoid dealing with new state regulations or mandates, which could make it more difficult for them to offer uniform benefits across the U.S., concluded a nationwide poll of 2,945 businesses conducted last summer.


Note: The survey defined jumbo employers as those with more than 20,000 employees, large employers as those with between 500 and 19,999 employees and small as those with fewer than 500 workers. The sample included 1,113 small, 1,664 large and 168 jumbo employers.
