AMA Nathan Davis awards presented to 8 public officials

The highest public service standards in government are recognized.

The American Medical Association last month honored eight public officials with the 2007 Nathan Davis Award for Outstanding Government Service for their dedication to health care. This year's honors and recipients are:

  • U.S. senator: Sen. Gordon Smith (R, Ore.).
  • U. S. representative: then Rep. Sherrod Brown (D, Ohio). Brown is now a U.S. senator for the state of Ohio.
  • Member of a state legislature: Connecticut State Sen. Toni Harp and North Carolina State Sen. William R. Purcell, MD.
  • Member of executive branch serving by presidential appointment: Margaret Giannini, MD, director, Health and Human Services Office on Disability.
