After winning a special election to fill former Rep. Tom Delay's seat in the remainder of the 109th Congress, she then lost the general election for the same seat for the 110th Congress, which begins next year. Dr. Sekula-Gibbs, the Republican candidate, lost in the general election to Democrat Nick Lampson, 52% to 42%, in the race for the Texas 22nd congressional district. She was sworn in Nov. 13 to briefly fill the seat left vacant by Delay's resignation this summer. "I will work with my colleagues to guarantee that we do whatever it takes to move this nation forward in addressing the critical issues facing this country, including health care, illegal immigration, and the war on terror," Dr. Sekula-Gibbs said.
