What leads practices to acquire technology?


81.7% Efficiency and convenience for physicians through remote access to patient data, fewer interruptions from pharmacies and patients about refills, laboratory results, etc.
60.0% Savings and increased revenue from improved coding, charge capture and decreased manual transcription.
52.6% Patient and physician satisfaction.
44.4% The need to survive and thrive in a more competitive, interconnected world.
33.0% Value-based health care purchasing/pay-for-performance.
15.8% Possibility of subsidized purchase of EMR, e-prescribing and other systems by employers, payers and large health systems.
6.9% Pressure from insurers.

The Medical Records Institute's annual survey of electronic medical record trends provides some answers. The Massachusetts-based industry group asked group practices and hospitals what factors drive the need for an EMR. The 437 group-practice respondents could select multiple factors; margin of error is 4.7%.
