Mayo hires tech pioneer as chair

The Mayo Clinic has hired James Barksdale as chair of its board of trustees, effective February 2006. Barksdale is the founder of the Barksdale Group, a venture capital firm.

HealthSouth chair steps down

HealthSouth board chair Robert P. May is leaving his post Oct. 1 after leading the outpatient services giant through the wake of a massive accounting scandal. Board member Jon F. Hanson will be the new chair.

May was at the helm of the board during the company's recovery from a $2.7 billion accounting fraud that was first revealed in March 2003. May cited "increasing professional and personal opportunities and obligations" as his reason for leaving.
