Texas physician launches firm securing the airwaves

An internist protects wireless data from prying eyes.

Business: Airscanner Corp. The company sells wireless security software that protects mobile devices and wireless corporate networks.

Annual revenue: Dr. Peikari, a practicing internist, launched his company at the beginning of the year. He declined to say how much business his start-up has booked through the first quarter.

Why he started the business: Dr. Peikari, who has a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering, said the idea grew partly from a combination of his educational background and previous experience developing security software for an information security company. "I had the idea to move into wireless and mobile security about three years ago, but at that time my ideas were too early for the market," he said. "However, because of the explosive growth in wireless [networks] over the past year, I saw the opportunity and founded Airscanner Corp.
