Health tech deals delayed
The United States and German governments have asked Healtheon/WebMD and Siemens AG for additional information about their proposed acquisitions of three health care companies, signaling possible antitrust concerns.
U.S. regulators asked Healtheon/WebMD for additional information about its pending acquisitions of CareInsite Inc., an online medical transactions firm, and Medical Manager Corp., a practice management software company.
Meanwhile, German regulators asked Siemens AG to provide more information about its proposed purchase of Shared Medical Systems, a Malvern, Pa.-based company that sells hospital information and practice management systems.
Healtheon/WebMD and Siemens can't complete their deals until regulators complete their review. Both companies are confident their deals will be cleared.
